Boasting three distinctly different art galleries, Elk Rapids has become a destination location for art lovers in northern Michigan. “As I’ve run around northern Michigan, I’ve noticed that Elk Rapids has been blessed with some of the best fine-art galleries,” said Bob Streit, owner of the Twisted Fish art gallery.
At the Twisted Fish Gallery and Sculpture Garden on US 31, you can tour the outdoor art garden, the gallery, or the cottage, which showcases different artists throughout the year. The Blue Heron Gallery on Ames Street features more than 100 Michigan artists, including many that people may not yet know about. With exhibits by more than 400 artists, Mullaly’s 128 Studio & Gallery on River Street is best known for their collection of outstanding glasswork.
Twice a year these galleries, along with the ArtRapids! Walk of Art, come together to host Art Beat, a day-long art walk featuring refreshments, live music, giveaways, and artist demonstrations. Hosted each spring and fall on the first Saturdays in June and October, Art Beat provides a relaxed and sociable way to enjoy the craftsmanship and beauty of many talented artists.
